It looks to me like the outside row of logs has diamond at both ends that is mitered to the log on the next side. You could probably do it with HSTs and a square to make it easier.

Looks like it may be a Judy Martin design that first appeared in Scrap Quilts (1985) under the name Colorado Log Cabin.
