Hello and welcome from Ontario. It can be overwhelming. If you are looking to be able to take work along perhaps appliqued or embroidered blocks could be what you start with and then add pieced blocks to complete your quilt. There are several layouts that work well this way, "Warm Wishes" is one that comes to mind.
