If my memory serves me correctly, my grandmother explained to me that the 3/80 means there are 3 threads twisted together and 80 is the size of thread. Similar to the size when we buy perle cotton for embroidery, DMC Brand has 3, 5,8 12 the higher the number the finer the thread.and the other number is the color

Dayle, there is another picture i would like to share with you and the group...
during my years as a 'carer' in an old folks home run by the 'church of scotland' i collected a lot of old sewing baskets from ladies who had passed away. so, my bobbin collection is like looking at candy, i can tell you.
well, one of the bobbins of cotton i used to stitch down the hair had some old writing on it written with a fountain pen...
it says, in lovely penmanship...
"Super, 3/80, 68," (not too sure what that means)
then a date...
"7/9/26" so in the UK, that's 7th September 1926.
so Dolly Rachael really is a 1930's dolly!
