Heavy??? I remember those cold winters, too. We didn't have any heat in the entire house except from a fireplace and the old wood stove in the kitchen. The heat from the fireplace went up the chimney instead of out into the room. We had the old feather beds, too. So with the feather beds and the heavy quilts we could hardly turn over, but you found a spot and got so warm you didn't want to turn over.
I remember sleeping with my grandmother and she snored so loud and I would punch her and say, "Granny, please don't snore". She would answer back, "I wasn't asleep". LOL
