I now have a light box I can take anywhere works like a charm and was inexpensive. The only thing I had to buy was the light as I didn't have one of those and found a cheap one. Hope this helps. I did the same years ago as I do a lot of embroidery, but a couple of years ago I got a kids art/craft type kit that had a battery powered small light box in it ('bout 8"sq),has a handle and is so light and easy to carry. Needless to say the grandkids got the paper, pencils etc, Nanna snaffled the light box.
