After lunch, I decided that I was not up to doing anything that would be a challenge, so I decided to do a quilt as you go that I designed several years ago and have made several times.

If anyone wants to try this, you begin by cutting the corners off 1/2 of a yard of fabric. Pin it to backing and batting, then add strips until the space left is the size of the corners you cut off. Put them on. Trim any irregularities. Bind. I bind by machine for kid quilts, because I think they are more durable that way. I start with the binding on the back, fold it to the front and top stitch right at the edge.

I do the center as free motion quilting after the binding, but a grid of some time would work too.

Scrap strips would work too.
