I've been trying to build my stash. That way I can just pick some material and work on something. It's not convenient for me to just run out to get what I need. I do try very hard to buy on sale or clearance, because if I didn't have a stash, started a new pattern, had to go buy material, I would end up spending so much more. So a stash actually saves me money in the long run.
