He surely doesn't know what he's asking, to put Minkee on the back of a king size quilt. Possibly steer him in another direction. Even flannel would be better.
I'm making my son an outdoorsy, cabin type quilt and I'm using homespun for the backing. It will become very soft after a few washings and is nice to quilt.
