Some of the manuals are terrible, although the 440's is better than what I got with my old 153! They might as well not have given me one. There was also a Mastery Guide that was used in classes (not that we have any such thing over here, LOL).
If you have the Bernina Instructional Presentation CD it should help you quite a lot with the basics.
