Just cut a rectangle ( I just use 5" by 9 3/4"). Lay it out right sides together and draw a line down the center. (The 5" part.) Then use your ruler to draw a line from the upper left corner to the bottom of the center line. Next use your ruler to draw a line from the upper right corner to the bottom of the center line. it will meet the other line. Start at one of the corners and sew 1/4 inch above the line to the bottom center, then pivot and continue sewing above the line that goes to the other upper corner. Cut thread and do the same 1/4 seam below the line, again pivoting at the bottom center and continuing up to the corner. Cut on the center pencil line, then cut between the two lines you have just sewn. You will end up with 4 squares. I hope this helps, if it doesn't I would be glad to post some pictures for you.
