carol, the screws should still serve the same purpose. one should attach the tension spring to the case itself. one should adjust the thread tension. if the thread is too loose and tightening the screw doesn't get the thread tighter, then you'll know it's the thread tension screw that's missing. if the thread gets tighter when you tighten the screw then the missing one is the one that attaches the tension spring to the bobbin case. clear as mud, huh? in any case you'll have to take it into a repair place, because the screws are probably measured in metric measure which are hard to get here. they'll have to get it for you.
