Buy yourself an adjustable ironing board (one that will lower so you can sit in a chair as well as stand up). Buy a scrap piece of plywood (3x6) and cover it with a checkered picnic oil cloth. You can then line up your fabrics by the checks and fabric will slide on it easily. You can stand up then and make it any height you want. Conversely, have a board cut that will cover both your washing machine and your dryer and you will have a work surface you can cut on with your mat or baste, etc. Use your noodle to solve your problem and decide which might work for you. Sorry for your loss of your table. Let us hear what you did.
