Randa,
I was thinking about your reverse not working last night while I was cleaning this section of my NVF. Does your machine have a spring attached to the reverse mechanism (inside)? There should be a spring. If not, that could be why yours doesn't go in reverse. I haven't tried mine with fabric yet to see if it reverses, but it looks like it should. I'm still cleaning and oiling the parts.
yes there is a spring in there. I've had to take the plate off and check everything...my feed quit working while sewing the other day and I oiled (again) and it worked for a few more. Then tonight I was sewing with her again and it acted up again....So I took off the plate again and turned the wheel by hand and watched. When it worked it would "click" into place but when not it just stuck and wouldn't move. So like every five or six stitches it would work but then stick again. When I finally saw where it was sticking I gave it a good drink of oil and worked it by hand turing the wheel. It was right where the reverse spring is attached...it was just dry and I thought I had oiled every moving part, but that is so subtle a move I didn't notice it! So I haven't tried the reverse but I'm betting it will work. It runs so quiet now and I finished my quilt squares! Love that machine!!
