I too recently got new blades, in the five pack. I had a hard time separating them and wondered how people do it without slicing their fingers off. I keep a pair of tweezers in my tool kit, so I separated them that way. Had I not specifically bought a five pack, I probably would have done the same as you, because it certainly didn't seem like there were five individual blades in the package.
