The tension needs to be adjusted properly in order to have the seams not draw up other than that the option would be to put a stabilizer under the seam as you stitch it - then tear out the stabilizer afterward. Using a walking foot or a satin foot would make it easier as well, and use pins if the fabrics slide a lot. It will make a beautiful quilt, but more work at the beginning. I'd use a smaller size needle if you have options, like an 11...but check it with the thread you're planning use. Good luck.
