You can still put a label on after your quilt is done. Make your label and back it with Steam A Seam II. When you remove the paper on the back of the label, you will have a permanent iron on adhesive. If your label has raw edges, just fold them under, iron the label onto your quilt, then hand stitch around the edges to further secure it. Shouldn't be a problem keeping the stitches only on one side of the quilt so they don't show through the back.
