I have never found my flannel backed quilts to get anything but softer with washing...I have flannel pj pants that have lasted me 10 years and are still in near perfect shape, save for fading. They see much more abuse than any blanket or quilt I've used.

It IS lintier though, and I do have to clean my machine often while using it. Totally worth it, to me.

I make an effort to buy Marcus Brothers flannel or other good flannel. Only some solids and checks was up nice and soft over time most others seem to get rough.
