I have that problem too. That new needle they advertise on TV really works. I went to their website - can I remember it now?? Of course not! - they have a size meant for hand quilting. The thread does not come out like it does on the self-threading needles in the past. They are a bit spendy, but oh so worth it! Ok, I went hunting and found it. http://spiraleyeneedles.com/

I use mine to bury threads when I am quilting on my longarm, but it is really great!
