I prefer thread basting. Of course, the spray basting is easy to handle but to be honest I don't like the touch of a spray basted quilt sandwich. The fabric and the batting do not "move" against each other when hand quilting.
I know there are many quilters who use the spray and don't have problems, but I don't like it.
