Actually I may make it a front and back and then a separate top...still don't love it though.
When that happens to me, I literally dismantle the kit, put the fabric into my stash, donate the pattern to my local library (mainly so I don't change my mind and try to do it again) and carry on. I find if you really don't like the project, you will never finish it.
