Lovin' your story! I well remember my grandmother using the irons from the kitchen stove. We had a pepsi bottle with a sprinkler lid on it to dampen the fabric. Boy did we get into trouble if we got it too wet because it took so long to dry it out. Mildew happens quickly in west kentucky so she had to work to get the fabric dry before she could put it up.
