Not sure I understand. You say you want to make it double sided without putting a backing on it. If it is double sided, it HAS a backing. When the squares are double sided, one side automatically becomes the backing, and an additional "backing" is not needed. Do you mean BATTING? Are you saying you want to make a rag quilt without the batting that goes in between the two layers ? If so, you can easily do that by leaving the batting out. I have seen them made without batting, especially the denim ones and they are nice quilts and not too heavy.
