:| I thought I would be learning a new technique that would save time. Guess it does, to a point. But, hand sewing? They tell me to do it while watching tv. Nooooooo, that's my time for yarn work, computer games, etc. Ugh.

Not necessarily. I made a QAYG where I stitched the blocks together on the back and finished the edges on the top with a decorative stitch. I used it to make a 'pool quilt' many years ago, and it has endured lots of vacations and machine washings and in none the worse for wear. I have slaso made one like you are describing and it didn't hold up nearly as well.
