What mommamac said. Measure & cut the border. Don't just start with a really long piece and sew it on then cut to fit. This is how you get wavy borders. If you're feeling brave, get the "The Border Workbook" by Jane Kime. Lots of borders, instructions on scaling them and how to fit them to YOUR quilt so the border pattern works out right.
