I have found the cheapest pump hairspray works best, but you have to devote some time to the process. Saturate the stain with hairspray, put a paper towel or old washcloth under stain, blot the ink stain with a different towel like you are pushing the stain out the other side, rinse in cold water and repeat till the ink stain is gone.
I have an old/recycled plastic icecream tub sitting on my washer for pocket contents. It has a handle and can be taken to the different owners and their items to be retrieved. I keep the $ as a fee.
