I woke up at 3 am and the first thing to pop in my head was pinwheels! :D
It dawned on me that using 5" squares in the draw the line method would end up with a 9" finished square which I think is perfect for my project.
Using 5" squares with the sew around the edges method, the finished block would be only 6". Not the perfect for me 9" size I was thinking.
I looked up this chart I had seen on here to calculate the finished size block for the sew around method and thought I would share.

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-57124-1.htm
If you double the second number in the chart and subtract 1" you get the size of the finished square. (according to my calculations)

Luckily for me, the blocks I am using are 10" right now so if I cut them to 8" instead of 5" my blocks should be my perfect 9"!

As of now, I will be using 8" blocks in the sew around the edge method and making the quilt 9x8 blocks and then maybe a border or two!
All this is subject to change of course!
:-D
