I have a walking foot (for my cheap sewing machine!). I got it primarily to use on a quilt as you go, if I remember right. I just never took it off my machine. I used it for piecing, bindings, etc. Recently I thought about joining a group at a LQS that was making a new quilt pattern and when the leader-to-be mentioned the 1/4" foot, I said I had a walking foot on my machine. She strongly suggested I take it off and get a 1/4" foot. Well, IT does 1/4" and I had been using it for everything. Is that a bad thing? Exactly what is a walking foot for, please tell me? (And if anyone starts singing, "this foot is made for walkin, and that's just what it'll do....!)
