Use something that is coarse or ruff to their feet like a Brillo pad or pot scrubbers. Lay a few around the perimeter of the pot. I wouldn't use anything toxic because when you water the plant it will seep into the soil and when the plant pulls up the water it will poison the plant. You want to deter the cats, not kill your plants in the process.
