I made one of her star quilts for my little grandson. Although it's much smaller than yours, I changed it from square to rectangular by adding a strip of arrows, as shown in the picture. If you look into Seminole strips/borders, you'll find some ideas that might fit with your theme.

You'll do a wonderful job and be very proud of your results.
