Their thinking might be that if you know the yardage needed and can see the picture, you won't buy the pattern. Still, I agree that if you are purchasing the pattern you should be able to call or email the store and ask them to read off the amounts needed. I'm sure they would do that especially if you are buying the fabric at the same time.
