My mother had a Singer portable, with a buttonhole attachment like that, it does make wonderful buttonholes. I took the machine and the attachments with me when I went to college. My oldest daughter, then took it to college with her. She had quite a little business going, patching jeans, sewing on buttons and general repairs for other students. She still uses it regularly. A tune up once a year and it is still going strong. I am not sure they make them like that anymore.
