That's exactly how I started. I ended up making 9 blocks, then made it into a small wallhanging. Liked it so much I made two pillows. These colors looks great together. Maybe they aren't your coor scheme now, but these are perfect together, you have your light, medium and dark colors and they go together wonderfully. Don't be so hard on yourself.
