Is it by any chance an older Viking? I had one that had set for a number of years and when I got it out to use. It only sewed in reverse. There is a Vintage Viking (prior to 1980) yahoo group that has information files on how to work on the older Vikings. I was advised by a repairman that mine was unrepairable and I should scrap it. Six months later I found this group and promptly bought another Viking off of ebay because I now know it can be cleaned and repaired.
