I learned how to sew in 4-H, then Grandma and I sewed my first quilt. I calculated the math on the material (just enlarged 1 block to the size I wanted it to be) - then bought extra "Just in Case". Learned how to tie a quilt and was off and running.
Later I got back into it by taking a class at my LQS, and finally found this board and joined my local quilt club. My husband and kids have happily taken my beginning efforts, and I'm gradually getting to where I don't mind others looking at the work I do.
My suggestion - ask someone you think might quilt and you will be surprised at what will happen.
