I agree that babies love prairie points as something tactile to enjoy. I had to laugh, though, about the having to iron the points down - a friend of mine made a generous queen sized quilt and she tacked down the points using a decorative "doodad" stitch on her machine so she wouldn't have to iron them down.
Examples of a "doodad" stitch would be a single duck, an eyehole (as for a belt), and similar - checkout your machine to see what it has.
