Vellum will be spendy but if you insist on it, try the office supply store...I believe they have vellum in "book" form.
You might want to consider cheap typing paper. That's what I've used with success.
I woiuld avoid the "commercial" pp paper sold at quilt stores.
Way too over priced.
I have used "tracing paper" and that also is sold bound
Go to your local office supply and look around.
Once you get going on it, you might want to try Marjorie Rhine's Painess Paper Piecing..

You do use the paper piece pattern, but don't actually sew THROUGH the paper. People who have tried it swear they won't go back to the old way.
