I made a rag quilt with unwashed flannel top and backing and "Warm & Natural" batting also not pre-washed. After quilting each rectangle (either 17 X 26 or 21 X 26), I sewed them together with a 1 inch seam allowance on the top. I cut the seam allowance into 1/2 inch wide fringe but a 1/4 inch fringe would have looked better. After washing the finished quilt, the flannel reflects the dimples of the W&M batting. It gave it an interesting effect.
