My first quilt was a "Square Within a Square" and I did it in flannel, with novelty prints (Superman, SpongeBob, Cars, etc.) for my granddaughter's little brother who was 7 years old. It was REALLY PRETTY and SO BRIGHT. It came out great, even though I was a beginner. I just kept watching the tape of Simply Quilts where they were doing that quilt. THEN, I LEARNED LATER that if you're just starting out, you should stay away from FLANNELS and TRIANGLES.. ha.
