I make toddler size quilts to be 40-45 x 60-65. This is a perfect size for a toddler bed, and big enough for an older child to snuggle in, as well, even though it would be too small for their bed. This is also the minimum size I would make a lap quilt for an adult (and the one adult I made one for in this size was my *ahem* "vertically challenged" grandmother ;) ).
