Me too; I like to pick up fabric abroad. If something seems likely to bleed (and this can include LQS fabrics, especially red) I wash them in cold water and then use Retayne with hot water . After this, I use cold water and a Shout dye absorption sheet. I do not find batiks more likely to shed dye than others; the first wash usually deals with it.
