This design is called "White Birches", from the Quilter's World magazine of Oct. 2010. This IS what the birches here in NW Wisconsin look like in the winter.

I learned quite a lot doing this! I believe that this is a first for me -- following directions! Almost everything else I do is 'make it up as you go along'.

The finished size is 48 by 60. The pattern called for an additional white border and black binding, but that would have been larger than I wanted, so I left off the last border and used the red for the binding.

There is not enough quilting, I know. But my FMQ is terrible, and I did not want to mess this up at this point, so I just sewed aroud the trees and birds, then straight-lined the white border twice and the gray border once. If I get better at FMQ or handquilting, I might go back and add some snowflakes in quilting someday, but for now, it is good enough!
