There is a product that is called Wonder Under or Heat and Bond and it is a paper backed fusible and you can do the process in two steps. There is also steam a seam 2 that until you iron the applique on it is repositionable. With the Wonder Under or Heat and Bond I would use the Lite. It will be softer and easier to stitch. I would also cut a piece of fabric and iron the fusible to the fabric and then cut your appliques out. So much easier that way and not as great a chance or getting fusible on your ironing surface.
