Bev, I think the advice you have received to go to the store and read some quilting magazines is a good one. Only you will know what suits you and your interests and skill level best.
I have subscribed to Quilter's Newsletter Magazine, American Patchwork and Quilting, and Fons and Porter's Love of Quilting. The only one I still get is American Patchwork and Quilting---for me, it is the one that best meets my quilting needs.
There are a lot of different magazines out there---it is so neat that your aunt is going to give you a subscription!! Enjoy!!
