You will have learned a lot from your experience so that is one positive. The second is that you have a wonderful quilt that has a history behind it to tell your family in years to come. As some one else said, most of us have done things like this, but somehow we always make it good in the end. well done. I love sunflowers by the way. Keep quilting.
