When we moved to PA we rented a very old house on an old estate - the hunt master's house it was called. Our daughter was born the second year we live there and that was when we discovered we had a ghost. The baby's room was on the second floor. Every time I was downstairs and she would start to cry I would see a middle aged woman dressed in colonial type clothing standing at the top of the stairs as I went up to tend the baby. She would stand with her arms crossed and be tapping her foot until I almost reached the second level then she would vanish. My DH thought I was nuts until he too saw her in her usual place when he was home alone with the baby. We had no sense of fear when we saw her and we decided she had appointed herself our daughter's guardian. We never saw her unless the baby was crying. I've always wanted to stop and ask the new owners of the house, who also had small children, if they had ever seen our ghost.
