I too live in Blue Springs, but found a wonderful fabric store in Kansas this past week. It is called Addadi's Fabric. It is on 87th Street. South of I-35. Owned by a very nice Jewish couple. Been in business since 1979. It is a very well kept secret. They have a website. Definitely worth checking out.
As far as your move, it could be so much worse. At less you won't be too far.
