How wonderful! They are a treasure, and will be a reminder of your mother each time you use it. A sashing would set off all the individual blocks, and define the space. Not sashing would still be possible if those are 12" blocks, as many of the embroidered blocks are. You have a lot of wonderful colors to choose from as possible sashing/border colors.
