On my customer quilts, I never cut anything off unless asked, and then I return all scraps to them.
On my own quilts, I save every bit of excess backing fabric for future scrap quilts, and all the excess batting for cleaning rags, coasters, etc. Mostly cleaning rags... they make wonderful dust rags!
