As for the zipper i find if you use a larger zipper and hang it off the end of the bag leaving it open while sewing the zipper in makes it much easier to top stitch after sewing the zipper in. be sure to close the zipper half way before trimming the bottom of the bag. I do use a whole zipper and sew it in regular rather than one piece. I am going to try her way at least once. I find my way easy to do. I got the pattern at a quilt show.
