I did each square and then connected them with a technique that I don't know the name of. I used a strip of the top fabric and a strip of the bottom fabric. I did machine applique, using satin stitch. I got a lot better at it as I went along.

As another poster said, "better done the perfect" was kinda my feeling , too. My quilting friends had never seen a Hawaiian quilt done on machine, so they were interested in how it turned out, too.
