I did machine applique, using satin stitch. I got a lot better at it as I went along.

As another poster said, "better done the perfect" was kinda my feeling , too. My quilting friends had never seen a Hawaiian quilt done on machine, so they were interested in how it turned out, too.

Sounds like the Crazy Short Cut Quilt method. I have used it for a quilt made from Hawaiian Shirts (see my Avatar) and using it right now for a Memorial Tee Shirt quilt.
